Vaulting the ceiling of an old stuffy cottage on a great winery in Dry Creek Valley, Healdsburg, Sonoma County.

This vacation rental‘s living room did not make me feel very relaxed. The tall shag carpeting didn’t help of course, along with the metal awning and neglected trees, blocking out all the sunlight, but the room itself was so square and boring.

My first instinct was to rip the ceiling away, so we did. Restricted by the structure of the house, I happily settled on a sweet center spot to give the room some

height and interest.

EUREKA! I can breath.
